AIM The Pacemaker assessment tool gives a unique insight into the tribal constructs within your organisation and provides to your corporate leadership a sensible and structured foundation on which to develop an effective GBDB implementation strategy. It also provides a practical tool to gauge the success of the implementation via periodic re-assessment. DELIVERABLES The output of the assessment process provides a reading of perceptions among participants regarding the status of the 23 GBDB tribal attributes as well as the state of IS, IV, TS and TV within the organisation. These are presented in graphic (bar chart) format to provide management with a snapshot overview from which priority intervention areas may be identified and further steps to develop a GBDB implementation plan developed. The results can be viewed for the organisation as a whole as well as by department and by organisation level and by individual attribute, as determined by prior consultation and as illustrated below.
Drilling down to divisional level shows up deviations from corporate averages and may indicate problematic areas requiring intervention, as below.
METHODOLOGY The assessment preferably covers the entire organisation. It uses the proprietary GBDB Pacemaker instrument consisting of a standardised series of 175 statements rated by respondents on a 5-point Likert scale for applicability to the organisation. Respondents remain anonymous in order to maintain response accuracy. The instrument is made available on-site in either electronic format or in manual (paper) format. Where the manual format is chosen, participants are grouped according to available on-site session facilities. Typical session duration is estimated at 2 hours. Session duration will be affected by a number of factors, including literacy levels, previous experience with similar assessments and cultural factors. THE INSTRUMENT Available in both electronic and paper format, the instrument provides a user friendly interface ensuring ease of operation. Clear instructions are provided in all versions. On the results side, a user-friendly navigation panel provides easy access to corporate, divisional or organisational level graphs, as below, providing a 360º viewing angle of the organisation, as well as results by individual attribute. See below. |

PROGRESS EVALUATION Re-assessing the organisation at regular intervals provides a method of gauging the success of the GBDB implementation. Depending on the specific strategy implementation, re-assessment and progress evaluation could be done at 6 - 12 month intervals.
